When I moved to
live in the United States, it was difficult for me to watch any TV show or
drama, because of the lack of English. But since my skills has improved in a
way that help me to understand well. I start to follow a funny American show
called, “late night with Jimmy Fallon”. Then, after I watched many episodes, I
really started to love this show. Maybe the reason is that James Fallon, who introduced
the show, is so funny and multitalented. He is a host, singer, comedian, actor,
and producer. In addition, what makes me love this show the best is, because it
criticized the problems in the American Society in ways that make people laugh,
which is something we need it, after a long- stressed day filled with work and
think.

The link is taking about the, “the art institute of
Chicago”. It is considered one of the most historical museum in Chicago. It
opened on May 24, 1879. At that time, it was considered as a high skyscraper in
Chicago. The collection of the Art Institute of Chicago includes
more than 5,000 years of human expression from cultures around the world and
contains more than 260,000 works of art. In addition, it features a collection
of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art in its permanent collection.
Art institute is the best example of high culture, because it consists of
painting, sculpture, and others art works that held in a high esteem by
cultures.
Food
“The
only way to have a cow”, is one of the best readings that I read about food. Indeed,
the reading interested me in general, but the part that I found the most
surprising was the negative impacts on climate changes; that come from our
increasing consumption of meats. This came as a shock because when I’m thinking
about the high percentage of meats that are eaten by the people daily. This mean
our environment in danger of extinction, because of the climate changes. In
addition, the reading motivated us to find other manners of how we herd the
livestock in order to protect our earth.
Movies
If there’s a
will, there’s a way” this comes to my mind when I watched Million Dollar Baby.
It is a sports, drama movie directed by Clint Eastwood in 2004. The main
performers in the million dollar baby are, Maggie (Hillary swank) who is a
woman in her thirty ages, and doesn’t have any goal in her life. Frankie (Clint
Eastwood), a gym landlord, his job is to train fighters to become a
professional boxer. Scrap (Morgan freeman), who was trained by frankly, and
working in his gym. Mainly, the movie is about woman, who aspires to become a
successful boxer. Million dollar baby is a sports, drama movie, filled with
exiting and interesting events. In one of the critical moment, Maggie got a
serious injured in one of her fighting against an aggressive fighter. As a
result, Maggie’s life turned upside down. Million dollar baby must be watched
by everyone, the actors were very experience, and they played their role
perfectly.in addition, the story was very emotional and touching. Indeed, it
was one of the best movies that released in 2004. It won an academic award, and
nominated for many others.
Music
The music part in the class was one
of the most interesting parts we did, because after I finished from the project.
I realized the importance of music in reflecting the cultures around the world.
In addition, I learned about lots of new singers and genres of music from all
over the world. While I was doing my assessments for music project, I found an
interesting singer called, “Bob Marley”; I like him, because all his songs were
about criticizing the problems in the society. He published many songs
throughout his life , but I think “Redemption song”, is considered one of the
most famous songs for Bob Marley, because it is focusing on an important issue in the society, which is salve’s
people in the our society .Indeed, it is
one of my favorite song, and what make me love this song the best is the message that he was tried to reach to the
world, “No matter what your skin color
is, we are all human beings, and we must all have equal rights”.
Reading
The reading that interested me the most throughout the semester was, “They’ve got to be Carefully Taught”. The reading discussed very sensitive issue in the American society, which is teaching our kids if they are different from one another or not. Indeed, at the first, I was kind of agreeing that we should tell our kids, if they are not American, about their ethnicity and backgrounds, but in the way that the article mentioned. After finishing the article, I would say that all the kids must treat as American, regardless, what their backgrounds, religions, and colors skin. Due to the fact that kids are pure, and we shouldn’t tell them that they are different from the others, because that will back with harm effect on the society in the future.

Cultural Identity
My poster mainly talks about the ancient and archaeological
areas in Syria, as we see in the upper middle, the free Syrian flag. In the
left corner, the Umayyad mosque, which is considered one of the ancient mosque
in the world, and in right corner. I chose citadel of Aleppo, because this
castle was witnessed on many wars throughout the history. In addition, the way
how the castle builds was remarkable, unfortunately some of the ruins are
destroyed because of the war that happen in Syria nowadays .In the lower middle
of the poster, there is some picture about the food, one of them, the Grape leave,
which is one of the most delicious dishes, and the favorite one for a large
number of Syrian. It is combination of rice and meat wrapped by the leave of
the grapes .basically, this a brief description about my poster, and hopefully
you will like it.
